The Director of Conservation Stewardship and Land Protection is a new position responsible for the integrated oversight of land protection, stewardship compliance, monitoring, and enforcement for SKLT.

The Director ensures that conservation values are protected in perpetuity through rigorous project execution, legally defensible documentation, systematic monitoring, and timely enforcement consistent with Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices. The position work s collaboratively with the Land Management Director on land stewardship implementation , the Stewardship Compliance Coordinator on the monitoring program and with the Executive Director on organizational strategy and risk management.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Land Protection and Acquisition Oversight:
•Manage land protection projects from inquiry through closing, including fee acquisitions and conservation easements
• Conduct outreach to priority landowners and respond to incoming protection inquiries
• Educate landowners on protection options, stewardship obligations, and required stewardship fund contributions.

Stewardship Compliance, Monitoring, and Enforcement:
• Oversee SKLT’s monitoring program and Terrafirma enrollment
Work closely with the Land Management Director and Stewardship Compliance Coordinator to ensure annual monitoring is completed, documented, and archived in compliance with accreditation requirements 
•Interpret conservation easements, deeds, surveys, titles, baseline documentation, and historic files
• Work with Stewardship Compliance Coordinator to ensure the identification, assessment, and prioritization of potential and confirmed violations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in landconservation, real estate, stewardship, or related fields (or equivalent combination of education andexperience)• Demonstrated experience drafting, interpreting, and enforcing conservation easements and realestate documents• Strong knowledge of land trust stewardship, compliance, and enforcement practices• Experience managing complex projects and multiple stakeholders• Ability to work in the field on uneven terrain in all weather conditions• Proficiency with Landscape, GIS platforms, and standard office software• Valid driver’s license; ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced training or experience in real estate law, land use planning, conservation finance, ornatural resource management• Prior experience in a senior stewardship or land protection role• Experience leading enforcement actions or complex compliance resolutions• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-management skills• Ability to balance legal rigor with landowner relationships and organizational mission
