Horsley Witten Group is seeking a full time Staff Planner to join our team of enthusiastic professionals who can support a wide range of technical work, engage communities, build on our company’s practice, and affect positive change. Our team utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to its work combining land use planning with engineering, science economics, and public policy.

We support a hybrid work model (in office and work from home) and this role can be based out of our offices in Providence, RI or Boston, MA.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Between two and five years of experience in the professional planning field. While this is probably the best fit for our immediate needs, we also encourage more experienced planners to apply
  • A degree from an accredited (or otherwise accomplished) university planning program
  • A basic understanding of how local governments function
  • The desire and ability to:
    • Work in a high performance, deadline-driven, service-oriented environment
    • Organize their work and communicate with co-workers at a high level of proficiency
    • Step outside their comfort zone from time to time and learn new things quickly
    • Write and make edits to their work based on constructive criticism
    • Collaborate and support teams of senior planners and policy experts with technical analyses, meeting documentation, and graphics development
    • Review zoning codes and development ordinances for the purpose of assisting our engineers and designers with regulatory compliance
    • Organize and prepare for public meetings, and attend occasional evening meetings and hearings, including facilitation of activities designed to solicit input
    • Take excellent meeting notes
    • Manage work for multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong research, writing, and data analysis skills
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
  • A valid driver’s license, access to an automobile, and willingness to travel out-of-state from time to time

OTHER DESIRED Qualifications:

  • Experience as a consultant
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited (or otherwise accomplished) university planning program
  • Proven experience and capabilities with graphic design software for infographics or report development (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign)
  • Ability to speak Spanish
  • Experience with visualization tools such as SketchUp or similar applications
  • Experience with online survey platforms such as SurveyMonkey, Microsoft Forms, etc.
  • Experience with ArcGIS
