The Town of Groton Connecticut seeks a creative, collaborative, and motivated individual to fill the role of Sustainability and Resilience Manager in our Office of Planning and Development Services.  The Manager will lead the Sustainability and Resilience division and will work on the development and implementation of our equity-centered Climate Action Plan, manage numerous grants, and partner with a diverse and unique group of stakeholders.  This is a non-union, exempt, full-time position.  Groton is an economic driver of southeastern Connecticut.  Come and be a part of a great team during an exciting time in the Town of Groton!

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Sustainability and Resilience Manger leads a division of two employees in the Office of Planning and Development Services.  This position is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan that will serve as a framework for a coherent set of strategies, policies and programs dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of governmental agencies and the Town as a whole. Key benefits of this positions work will include positive environmental impact, municipal cost savings and reduced energy consumption with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality for the Town.  The position will integrate preparedness and climate change projections into municipal projects, actions, planning, and permit review and to ensure that town staff and the community has the knowledge, support, and resources necessary to reduce their vulnerability to the increasing risks associated with climate change.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a Master’s Degree in Sustainability, Planning, Environmental Science, Sustainable Business, Engineering, Public Administration or related curriculum and eight (8) years’ experience.  A combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.  Knowledge of climate change and development of Climate and Sustainability Action Plans.  Community engagement and partnership development.  Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, attention to detail.

 

Criminal background, drug testing, and driving record checks required prior to employment.

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

 

Must possess and maintain a Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Supervisory and municipal facilities experience preferred.
