The purposes of this position are to assist the Town Planner and Assistant Planner in providing
information and assistance to Town officials and staff, developers, the business community and
the public on planning, zoning, housing and development-related matters. The position requires
experience in an office setting, and excellent customer service skills. Previous experience in
municipal or government environment preferred. Preference given for someone with course
work in planning, geography, environmental studies, natural and/or earth studies, GIS, or related
field. This position is responsible for routine tasks and duties, including application intake and
distribution, tracking department activity, and a high degree of public interaction.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration
of specific planning programs areas or ordinances.
• Performs routine office tasks in designated program areas, including data entry, file
management, copying/scanning and answering the telephone.
• Develops and maintains automated tracking systems, hard copy files and records.
• Assists Planner(s) with research and planning studies by preparing maps and reports,
compiling data, including survey data, and maintaining a database of approvals and
permits.
• Prepares public notices and property owner verifications.
• Prepares maps, charts, tables of moderate complexity.
• Reviews land development plans, subdivision and zoning applications to assure
compliance with procedural and other requirements.
• Assure that all agendas and minutes are posted in compliance with open meetings laws
and submit all board member recusals to the State Ethics Commission.
• Assist applicants through Town-mandated approval processes, including preparing legal
ads; recording, posting and distributing land use decisions; and reviewing applications
upon submission for completeness.of projects related to transportation, open space and recreation, historic and cultural
resources, hazard mitigation, and other areas.
• Manage volunteer programs consistent with Town goals and policies. Such volunteer
groups include the creation of advisory committees that are listed in the goals and actions
of the Comprehensive Community Plan. Train volunteers and maintain records. Recruit
participation and market the events using municipal resources such as Town’s web page
and social media accounts.
• Performs analysis of spatial and non-spatial data to generate statistical and other reports
and infographics.
• Prepares presentation materials and other creative output at the discretion of the Planner.
Output to include maps, graphs and other publications through the use of GIS and other
related software/equipment. The ability to present and explain the material to other staff
and the general public is required. 
• Assist Planner(s) in soliciting grand funds from State and/or Federal agencies.
Manage volunteer programs consistent with Town goals and policies. Such volunteer
groups include the creation of advisory committees that are listed in the goals and actions
of the Comprehensive Community Plan. Train volunteers and maintain records. Recruit
participation and market the events using municipal resources such as Town’s web page
and social media accounts.
